Shaun - these tins are lovely! They remind me of "the good old days" where neighbors looked out for each other, and people weren't so self centred. I was brought up in a small country town, and it makes me think back to those times

Yes I think you are right, my kids have very good vision and are able to find the smallest things amongst heaps of other stuff that they are not interested in.

Awww that's so cute about the dinosaur bone!! I did the same thing with fools gold when we went gold panning hehe. My middle child who has autism, is obsessed with dinos!!

Shaun, I LOVE your Tin collection!!!! I'll be sure to keep an eye out at op-shops for you

My list.... I guess I will try and do it in a chronological order (chronological - I have been trying to think of that word for three days! lol -yes ) a lot of these were intense for a period of time (some spanning years), but ended up being transient, and although may still interest/intrigue me I wouldn't classify them as Special Interests anymore. For the ones that are also current I will put an asterisk (*) at the end

* my little brother (my first memory is when he was born) *
* Water and how it felt and moved (water baby)
* deciphering written language
* running writing
* cats *
* spiders *
* tackle football lol
* motorbikes
* the insanity of human existence
* death (intense contemplation about death, not contemplating taking one's life)
* Hooked on Classics CD *
* The Carpenters (band) *
* Hunters and Collectors (band) *
* birds - I wanted to turn my room into a bird filled sanctuary lol
* Writing fictional stories
* Social justice - I used to be tiny but fierce! lol
* self-made philosophies *
* Making envelopes
* Stationary *
* Drawing
* Art Attack (old TV show)
* Money (I used to make things and sell things to family members and would set up a little "shop" and sell things to my brother lol) Not very important to me nowadays except as a means to an end.
* soccer (playing it)
* Stephen King Novels (esp. Eyes of the Dragon)
* Trombone
* Stamp collection
* Barbie doll collection lol
* Medical documentaries *
- general health
- triage
- developments
* Scientific documentaries *
- new developments
- cosmology
- evolution
- lots of different areas
* collecting dead specimens and preserving them in metho *
* cooking
* learning German (though I couldn't find the time to focus on this a couple of years ago, more of a special interest now than ever before) *
* looking at things through (handheld toy one first) microscope *
* cataloguing interpersonal communications
* Law and Order
* Criminal profiling
* Practical Parenting and SuperNanny *
* Singing *
* Collecting lint *
* Star Trek (I'm still a bit of a noob lol)*
* psychology
* Creating book/script ideas in mind *
* sefl-education *
* personal development *
* health *
* new rock shoes *
* lip service clothing *
* Asperger's *
- understanding
- awareness
- funding ideas
* pole dancing for strength and fitness, plus I love spinning lol *
* conquering the "monkey mind" through mindfulness, and changing my emotional reactions through CBT thus reducing suffering *

I've probably missed some, but that's all I can think of right now

A gramophone needles tin, COMPLETE WITH GRAMOPHONE NEEDLES

And a gold cigarette case

Jodster,

Thankyou!!!!

Yes the tins give me a sense too of things the way that they used to be, and they show me things from the past as well.

I think that it is for the same reason that I really like looking through old newspapers and seeing the old advertisements, and the old turns or phrase in the stories

There is a whole load of social information that I am oblivious to day by day, but I can use historical archaeology skills to unearth at least a biased subset, of what was important in these echoes from the past

Yeah good peripheral vision can come in handy, everytime I go with people looking for fossils especially fossilised sharks teeth, which I'm told are hard to find, I end up with people following me! I have given away more than I have kept!!!

Shezza,

This is a wonderful list of special interests

May I ask, and pardon my ignorance, is trombone, the vegetable, or the musical instrument?

Cats are funtabulous, I must contribute to the For the Love of Cats thread soon

Stationery is grand as well, oh to line it up in order of size, and not open it or use it, but just to have it.
