Hello

My brother who is 39 years old, has recently been diagnosed with Aspergers. He is a chronic worrier and is a lovely guy, but is living on his own, so has no one to talk to. He worries about the littlest things (although I know that they are big for him). My mum is very stressed, because his worries cause her to worry about him and then she can't sleep. He is also very shy, so he wouldn't go to a support group. Is there anyone on the southside of Brisbane feeling lonely, with chronic worries, wanting friendship with someone similar? Please contact me on This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.

Thank you.

Hi there,

Was wondering if it's ok with your brother - if you or he could tell us a little bit about himself. What sort of stuff does he like doing? Does he have any hobbies or interests? TV shows or movies he is interested in. Music he likes etc. Helps us get to know him and might make it a bit easier to find someone for him to talk to.

How many aspies actually do want to get out and meet people?

I might be one of the most pessimistic AS woman there is but I have avoided people as much as possible and only when really necessary I will face them.
I have developed a huge social fear not just for the event itself but the people who are involved in it (without people no social event ) . I have been hurt too many times by too many people started at a young age that I can't be borthered meeting people. That's way internet such as this forum is for me the best solution.

I haven't got the courage to meet other aspies (we have special autism cafés in Holland, open once a week for aspies and partners). Mum says it would be good to meet other aspies, but she doesn't understand how much anxiety it causes and how exhausting another panic attack is. I am still in the process of accepting of becoming a lonely single woman who is planning to live in a box somewhere in the middle of nowhere, which is not possible in Holland - here is no place in the middle of nowhere, it is fully build and populated. So that will be another country some day.

I want to get out and meet people. I don't think isolation in any form in copious amounts is healthy for a human being I don't like to entertain the thought that I would end up being one of these people who die in my house a lonely old woman and it'll be 3 weeks or more before people discover I am dead

I think everyone needs some sort of interaction with at least 1 other human being. It is the degree and amount of socialisation that would be the key element as to whether it would be beneficial or detrimental to the individual...
